As a result, we have a new place to stand:
trusting in Jesus and his completed work on the cross,
and receiving forgiveness and new life from God.

As a result, we have a new place to stand:
trusting in Jesus and his completed work on the cross,
and receiving forgiveness and new life from God.
And Jesus stood once again on the earth after his death,
having conquered death by rising to new life.
Jesus also stood on a hill outside Jerusalem,
dying on the cross to take the punishment we deserved
and win forgiveness for us.
God has not abandoned us to death and judgment, however.
Out of his love for us, he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, into the world.
Jesus stood on the earth as a human being,
living a perfect life in trusting dependence on God, his Father.
As a result of refusing to stand upon God’s loving care for us,
we fall under his judgment,
facing death and condemnation for our rebellion against him.
However, we have chosen to rebel against God.
Rather than standing in trusting dependence on him,
we shake our fist at him and reject him and his loving support for us.
We try to stand on our own resources,
but in reality we end up with nothing solid under our feet.
God is the loving creator of all things and all people.
He made us so that we could live standing in trusting dependence on him,
as if held in his hand.
Many people think that Christianity is about trying to follow a set of rules for living a good life – and rules which are heavy on the “thou shalt not”.
However, being a Christian is not about what we do (or don’t do). Instead, it is about what Jesus has done for us, and what he gives us freely: the life we were created by God to lead, living in harmony with him and with other people.
On the following pages of this presentation, we summarise the message of what Jesus came to do for us: the “good news” of how he has given us a new place to stand, a new hope for life now and in the future, not just in this life but in the life to come.
