{"id":933,"date":"2010-03-15T07:00:24","date_gmt":"2010-03-15T06:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/?p=933"},"modified":"2010-02-20T11:51:51","modified_gmt":"2010-02-20T10:51:51","slug":"lenten-devotions-2010-monday-15-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/2010\/03\/15\/lenten-devotions-2010-monday-15-march\/","title":{"rendered":"Lenten Devotions 2010: Monday 15 March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>\u201cFor this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.\u201d\u00a0 John 6:40<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0It is not uncommon to hear people lament, \u201cI just wish I knew what God\u2019s will for my life is.\u201d\u00a0 For some this question seems to plague every aspect of their life and every move they make, or don\u2019t make.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But in our text, Jesus clearly tells us what God\u2019s will for us is, \u201cthat everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life.\u201d\u00a0 The problem with the question of \u201cwhat&#8217;s God\u2019s will for my life\u201d is, that it places the emphasis on me and my life.\u00a0 I want God to reveal His will to me, and I want it done now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0But God has revealed His will for us in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 His will is that we look only to His Son, and not to ourselves or anyone or anything else, for eternal life.\u00a0\u00a0 Our faith is not to be placed in ourselves, our experience, our emotions, our reason; instead Jesus is to be the sole content of our faith.\u00a0 The content of that Christian faith which proclaims, \u201cthat God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.\u201d (John 3:16)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0God\u2019s will is that our hearts and our eyes would be fixed on Jesus at all times.\u00a0 Looking at Him, hanging on the cross and dying for my sins, and believing that through His substitutionary death in my place that I have forgiveness of sins, means that I don\u2019t have to worry about God\u2019s will for me.\u00a0 He has, and He is, working His will in my life.\u00a0 He is keeping me in Christ, so that Christ may raise me up on the last day to be with Him forever.\u00a0 Thy will be done.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Gracious and merciful God, please do not let me get so tangled up in my questions that I fail to see Your Answer: Jesus Christ and what He has done for me.\u00a0 Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cFor this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.\u201d\u00a0 John 6:40 \u00a0It is not uncommon to hear people lament, \u201cI just wish I knew what God\u2019s will for my life is.\u201d\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-933","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-lent-devotions-2010"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/933","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=933"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/933\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":934,"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/933\/revisions\/934"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=933"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=933"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.christlutheranchurch.org.uk\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=933"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
